Saturday, June 8 Community Kirtan
with Special Guest Astrud & Friends
Astrud & Friends 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Fee: By donation

Chanting mantras and prayers are elements of the Bhakti Yoga path which leads to union with the Divine Counsciousness. Chanting calms the nerves, purifies the emotions, heals the body and opens the heart. It elevates and concentrates the mind, preparing one for silent mantra repetition, meditation and communion with the Divine. Chanting done with a devotional attitude lifts the emotions toward selfless, divine love.

Throughout the ages, individuals have sought to realize the spirit within through music and sound vibration. And many of the world faiths and traditions incorporate this spiritual practice. Generations of ancient and modern yogis also have developed this uplifting practice, calling it Kirtan and using the Sanskrit language.

This is an Open Kirtan, where All are welcome to lead chants and join in the choir (or just listen!) Come join us for a joyful experience. Feel free to bring a chant or musical instrument to share!

JOIN ASTRUD and FRIENDS who are Ana Grillo, Steve Bamm, Peter Schuster and Ty Towry and Astrud Castillo.
As a group we are inspired by the sacred sounds and love to sing in the key of "WE". We share what is know as KIRTAN a call and response of sacred sounds and mantras. It is the relationship to these mantras that illuminates our heart and awakens our consciousness. It is not important that you can sing or that you understand the words. KIRTAN is an experience. It is a practice to release you out of the thinking mind and drop you gently into the heart. MAN means mind and TRA is instrument. So it is through these sacred sounds we are able to conduct the instrument of the mind. Please join us as we join you and together we create this sacred union with healing intentions for the whole of the world.

Our culture associates success with financial wealth. But, the yoga teachings offer a different perspective–valuing spiritual connection, peace, and happiness. Can we change our own perspective and consider what success really means? Is there any achievement greater than having peace in our daily lives?

Swami Ramananda served as the President of the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City and is a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition. He has been practicing Yoga for over 30 years. Through his affinity for and devoted study of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Ramananda offers practical methods of integrating the teachings of yoga into daily life, and coping with stress, depression, and anger. Rishi Schwieg first met Sri Swami Satchidananda in 1970. Sri Swami Satchidananda's thought, action and presence has been a guiding principal in Rishi's life ever since then. Rishi says, "It is in serving that we learn to live, it is in giving that we receive the greatest gift. Let us sit together and talk about Yoga. As we discard illusions of who we are, we become a fuller version of our true selves. A small step furthers."
